Key Components in Your Project

Starting a building project is exciting and getting your energy service connected shouldn’t be complicated. Below are the key steps to help you understand what happens and when. We’ll walk with you through every stage, keep you updated, and make sure you always know what’s coming next

Customer Intake

You: Submit your project request through SDG&E’s Builder Services Portal. Make sure you include all the required details.

SDG&E: We’ll review your request to confirm we have everything we need. This helps us assign your project to the right team and keep things moving quickly.

Design & Engineering

You: Provide any additional details requested by SDG&E.

SDG&E: We’ll visit your project site to gather necessary details, then collaborate with you to finalize a design that works best for your project.

Customer Dependencies

You: Review and approve the preliminary design, submit payment, and obtain any required permits from the local authority.

SDG&E: Once you’re done, we’ll take the next steps to keep your project moving.

SDG&E Dependencies

You: While SDG&E takes care of the next steps, you'll receive updates. If you have any questions along the way, just let us know.

SDG&E: We’ll complete field surveys, prepare easement documents, and submit any permits needed for our crews to work in your project area. We will also schedule traffic control services and/or coordinate a planned power outage for projects that require them.

Customer Site Readiness

You: Prepare your site based on the approved design. This may include trenching and installing necessary equipment. Also, set up your billing account.

SDG&E: We'll inspect your work to make sure it’s safe and meets standards.

SDG&E Site Readiness

You: No action is needed right now. We’ll keep you updated and let you know when it’s time to schedule construction.

SDG&E: We’ll get everything ready for construction by scheduling our crews and making sure materials are in place.

Construction

You: Keep your site ready and easy to access so construction goes smoothly.

SDG&E: We’ll install the equipment needed for your project, pull wire, make connections, and prepare the meter to bring you closer to completion.

Energization

You: Be sure the billing account is set up and local inspections are completed so your project will be ready for service.

SDG&E: We’ll do a final inspection, complete testing, and set the meter.
