super off peak

Turn daytime energy use into savings

Super off-peak hours are designed to align with times when energy is more available and less expensive.
By shifting energy use into this midday window, you can:

  • Pay less for electricity by using it during lower-priced hours
  • Take advantage of daytime flexibility, in addition to nights and early mornings
  • Shift energy use away from on-peak hours when demand is highest to help the grid

Even small changes like running appliances or adjusting your thermostat during super off-peak can add up over time.

Simple ways to save at home

Make the most of the expanded super off-peak hours by shifting energy use when it works for you:

appliances
Schedule larger appliances to run midday

Many dishwashers, washers and dryers allow you to schedule cycles to run automatically during super off‑peak hours—even if you’re not home.

pre-cool home
Pre-cool or pre-heat your home

If you have a programmable thermostat, use it to pre-cool or pre-heat your home during super off-peak so that your system uses less energy during on-peak hours.

curtains
Close blinds or shades after pre‑cooling

After cooling your home during super off‑peak hours, closing blinds or curtains can help keep indoor temperatures more stable.

pool
Adjust pool or spa equipment schedules

If you have a pool or spa, run pumps, heaters or cleaning cycles during super off‑peak hours to reduce energy costs.

cook
Cook or meal‑prep during super off‑peak hours

Using ovens, stovetops or slow cookers earlier in the day can reduce energy use during higher‑priced evening hours.

Yes. Solar systems produce energy during the day, so shifting activities like running appliances or precooling or heating your home into super off-peak hours can help you better align your energy use when panels generate the most electricity.

If you have battery storage, you may be able to store energy between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and use it later when prices are higher. This can help you use less electricity from the grid and lower energy costs.

Overnight charging is still a great choice, but it’s no longer your only option. Super off-peak hours continue overnight (12 a.m. to 6 a.m.) and now also include daytime hours. That means you can charge your EV when it works best for you, whether that’s overnight, during the day, or both.

Actual savings may vary and will depend on various factors, including geographic location, weather conditions, equipment installed, usage rates, and similar factors. Completing multiple energy-saving measures will not necessarily result in cumulative savings.
