Event Day Pricing Plans

With event day pricing plans, it matters when you use energy. If you can shift your home or business’ energy use between certain hours, you can maximize savings with an event day pricing plan.

About Event Days

An event day occurs when there is a call for customers to reduce their energy use between certain hours to help ease the strain on the energy grid. Up to 18 event days may be called per year.

The most common event day triggers are based on system load and temperature. For example, SDG&E may call an event day when electric system reliability is in jeopardy or when reductions in customers’ electricity use are needed during periods of high demand on the grid. Other triggers can include electrical emergency alerts issued by the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) or an SDG&E system emergency that affects local grid operations.

When your home or business is enrolled in an event day pricing plan it’s important to shift energy outside the daily on peak pricing period in addition to when an event day occurs. If you can shift energy outside of these hours, then an event day pricing plan may work for your home or business.
