Electrification for Shuttle Bus Fleets

SDG&E Supports Shuttle Bus Fleets
with EV Infrastructure Incentives & Rebates

Shuttle Bus Fleets

Shuttle buses transporting people to and from airports, car parks, corporate campuses, and universities can benefit from significant savings by operating an electric fleet. Their short, fixed routes and low average speeds are an ideal operational model for transitioning to an electric vehicle (EV) fleet. SDG&E’s Power Your Drive for Fleets program can help these specialized fleets benefit from the maintenance, fuel, and operational cost savings, as well as get ahead of upcoming regulations, such as California’s zero-emission airport shuttle rule, which will require compliance by 2035

Improve Total Cost of Ownership

Shuttle bus fleets moving towards electrification can reduce maintenance and operational costs, thereby lowering total cost of ownership (TCO) and improving their bottom line.

Total Cost of Ownership Analysis for Shuttle Fleets

The below graph provides a sample TCO analysis of a 20-vehicle fleet: Class 3 diesel shuttle van versus a Class 3 electric shuttle van. In this example, the fleet has an opportunity to save up to 41% by operating an electric vehicle.
