AC Saver

How It Works

After purchasing an approved Smart Thermostat, you can choose to participate with SDG&E or a third-party demand response provider. 

  1. Register your approved Smart Thermostat and enroll in a program 
  2. Receive $50 for each registered thermostat (limit of 2)

For AC Saver Thermostat program participants:

For customers looking to participate with SDG&E and are currently enrolled in a pricing plan other than Time-of-Use Plus and not participating with a third-party demand response provider.

  • You choose when to conserve energy: SDG&E may adjust your thermostat settings when an AC Saver Thermostat activation is called, but if you cannot participate on a day that energy conservation is needed; you’ll be able to opt-out of the adjustment for the day.
  • Activations may be called between 12 p.m. – 9 p.m.
  • The adjustment will last a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 4 hours. 
  • AC Saver activations only occur between April – October. 
  • The AC Saver Thermostat program may call up to 25 events per year, of which 5 are reserved for emergency purposes only. 
  • Customers who enroll by September 15 and remain enrolled and connected to Wi-Fi through October 31 are eligible to receive the $20 year end incentive. 

For Time-of-Use Plus pricing plan customers:

For customers looking to participate with SDG&E and are currently enrolled in a Time-of-Use Plus pricing plan.

• You choose when to conserve energy: SDG&E may adjust your thermostat settings on events days according to your pricing plan, but if you cannot participate on a day that energy conservation is needed; you’ll be able to opt-out of the adjustment for the day.

For Third-Party Thermostat Program Participants:

For SDG&E customers who choose to participate in the Smart Thermostat program through a Third Party Demand Response Provider.

All rules for participation will be determined by the third party and your thermostat settings will be adjusted by the third party, not SDG&E.

Plan Eligibility

As a residential customer, you must have a Smart Meter and an air conditioner controlled by an approved smart thermostat. Additionally, your home cannot be enrolled in the AC Saver program (formerly the Summer Saver Switch program).

This program is available to customers receiving Bundled Utility Service and billed by SDG&E. It is also available to Direct Access (DA) and Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) customers.

Customers who have received a thermostat incentive from this program in the past 8 years are not eligible for the $50 thermostat incentive.  However, if you've received a smart thermostat rebate through our energy efficiency program, you're still eligible to receive the $50 thermostat incentive through this program.

Customers enrolled on a Time-of-Use Plus plan are not eligible for the year-end $20 incentive

How do I apply?

To participate in this program, you must register your thermostat with the thermostat manufacturer from the list below then choose to enroll with SDG&E or a third party demand response provider.

If you would like SDG&E to stop adjusting your thermostat settings, you must email SDG&E at [email protected] call our Energy Savings Call Center at 1-800-644-6133.  

By registering your thermostat, you'll receive $50 on up to two thermostats. 

Honeywell: Honeywell Home T-series (T5, T6, T9, T10) or the Round Smart Thermostat or Honeywell Home Total Connect Comfort FocusPRO, VisionPRO, or Wi-Fi series.

Ecobee: Ecobee3, ecobee3 lite, ecobee4, ecobee EMS Si, ecobee Smart Thermostat with voice control.
