Why I enjoy working at SDG&E:

The SDG&E community has been wonderful to work with. There are endless opportunities at the company to expand my experience and grow in my field. I work for Environmental Services and get to collaborate on projects with people from many different departments. I feel SDG&E management is open and supportive of all employees, and I appreciate that there is always a new idea or innovation to learn about within the company. Plus, there are great ways to add variation to the day-to-day with seminars or volunteer events, such as workshops put on by the Organizational Effectiveness team or events through SDG&E’s Environmental All-Stars program.  Julia Varnergardner, Sr. Environmental Specialist

What is the best advice you can give to someone who just started their career at SDG&E?

The best advice I could give would actually be advice given to me twelve years ago when I started in the Substation Electrician program here at SDG&E: “Learn and soak up as much information as you can from everyone you meet here at the company.” I have followed this advice since that day, and it has helped me tremendously. I have learned so much from many different perspectives and I feel that’s what has helped get me to where I am today.

Why I enjoy working at SDG&E:

As a Senior Manager of Sustainability Programs and Strategy at SDG&E I have found a deep connection between my current area of focus, my personal experience and my vision of a sustainable future. My prior roles in Advance Clean Technology and Corporate Strategy at the company have allowed me to build that bridge. Our core values of Championing People, Doing the Right Thing and Shaping the Future have been great guiding principles. Both the work culture and my colleagues embody these values, which makes this such a great place to work. Equally important have been the emotional support and abundant encouragement I have found on our local Diversity & Inclusion councils and the Lean-In circles; they have always allowed me a safe space to tap into my inner strength and strive for excellence amidst personal challenges and periods of grave uncertainty. The camaraderie and friendships I have cultivated at Sempra and SDG&E over the past seven years are lifelong, and of course, priceless!

Why did you decide on a career at SDG&E?

There were many reasons I selected this career field. I have had the pleasure of seeing prior generations of my family work at this company and have seen the lifelong rewards it provided. It was a no brainer for me. SDG&E is appreciative of their employees and has countless opportunities for growth. I was searching for a company that exhibited strong values, gives back to its communities and provides a great support for military veterans. I knew SDG&E would provide me with a job that would challenge me and would give me a sense of pride.   Mario Castro, Gas Ops Site Lead

Why I enjoy working at SDG&E:

My 25 years with SDG&E have been rich in learning, variety and opportunity. I’ve worked in Customer Programs, Electric Generation, IT, Customer Service, Smart Meter  and Gas Operations. Each role gave me the chance to grow in ways that shaped me personally and professionally. When I first joined, the flexible work schedule and tuition reimbursement helped me through school. What a rewarding journey it has been since then! Every step of the way has been a growth opportunity and filled with rewarding learning experiences. Most importantly, I have been blessed with amazing friendships that I am sure will last beyond retirement.
