Smart Grid at SDG&E
The need for a smarter energy infrastructure and Smart Grid solutions in the San Diego region has never been greater. Our industry is quickly transforming, and changes to SDG&E’s power supply resource mix are impacting nearly every aspect of the region’s electricity system. As a result, we’re doing a number of things to transform the Smart Grid. Here are just a few of our projects:
Smart Grid tools
You now have tools to help manage your energy use. For example, Home Area Networks (HAN) show how much energy you are using in near real-time and help identify high-energy use appliances. You can also monitor energy through My Account, our mobile app and Green Button. Click here to learn more about tools that can help you save energy.
Connected to the sun
This program offers the option to purchase 100% renewable energy under this program. Look for this as early 2015. Click here for more information.
Solar to EV at the San Diego Zoo
In partnership with Smart City San Diego and the San Diego Zoo, we installed 10 solar photovoltaic canopies that power five electric vehicle charging stations in the zoo parking lot. The project is one of the first of its kind in the region. Annual CO2e saved by this project is equal to removing 189,216 lbs. of CO2e from the atmosphere, planting 2,788 trees or removing 21 cars from the road.
Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS)false
DERMS is an integrated software system that sends out real-time signals, which will allow more efficient energy use and enables us to better manage distributed generation, energy storage and other resources connected to the grid.
Smart Grid Award
Our Smart Grid deployment efforts are continuously acknowledged by industry observers. In 2012, POWER Magazine recognized SDG&E with its “Smart Grid Award.” In 2013, SDG&E was listed for the second consecutive year among the “Top Ten North American Utilities in Smart Grid” by GreenTech Media and GTM Research.
