Energy Innovation Center

A building that began as a grocery store in the 1950s is now a place where you’ll find food for thought – and action – about the latest energy and environmental technologies. At our Energy Innovation Center (EIC), there are seminars to teach you about cost-effective energy efficiency practices and energy technologies that integrate into the Smart Grid, like Home Area Networks, renewable generation and energy storage systems.

The center also has a commercial food service demonstration kitchen where professional chefs can test their recipes, a building dashboard where visitors can view the energy use at the EIC and comparisons in technology, sustainability tours featuring our innovative Smart Home and a resource library to help further your energy education. Last year, more than 30,000 people toured the facility.

Much like a living laboratory and classroom, every inch of the center serves as backdrop for energy-efficient ideas and thinking. Our goal is to educate visitors and inspire future energy innovation through demonstrations, seminars and training opportunities.  The Energy Innovation Center is now one of only 10 buildings in the world to achieve double LEED Platinum® certification making it one of the most sustainable in the world.
