Share the Sun

Share the Sun brings community renewables to SDG&E customers.

How it Works

Through Share the Sun you work directly with third-party renewable energy developers to purchase the rights to a portion of the energy generated from a new renewable energy facility. You enter into a private agreement with the developer, known as a Customer-Developer Agreement (CDA), where the electricity price and agreement terms are defined. Participating developers also enter into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with us, and are paid only for energy generated in excess of what customers have purchased.

Share the Sun participants will receive two bills each month:

  1. Your normal SDG&E bill with a credit reflective of the amount of renewable energy purchased from the developer.
  2. A bill from the developer to pay them for the renewable energy they are producing for you.

Enrolling in Share the Sun is handled through your renewable energy developer. SDG&E’s terms and conditions, as well as the value of the bill credit received from us, are outlined in the Share the Sun tariff. A minimum one year agreement is required and termination fees may apply.

Participating Developers

There are currently no developers with an active Share the Sun Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). However, you may encounter developers building community interest for a future project.

If a developer has contacted you and you want to know if they are participating in Share the Sun, or if you would like to report a problem with a developer, please email us at [email protected] or call 800-411-7343.
