Time of Use (TOU) Pricing Plans for Business

Your energy costs are based on how much electricity you use and when you use it. To better reflect energy use patterns and the impact on the electric grid, the California Public Utilities Commission recently approved these changes, effective December 1, 2017.

Seasonal change

The CPUC determined that the month of May more closely aligns with the data of our winter months instead of the previous summer designation.  Therefore the new seasonal periods are:

Summer period:
June 1 - October 31
(previously May 1 - October 31)

Winter icon
Winter period:
November 1 - May 31
(previously November 1 - April 30)

For small businesses the main changes effective December 1, 2017 are:

Time of Use period changes

Weekdays will have two peak periods:

  • On-peak: 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. (Highest demand, highest price)
  • Off-peak: 12 a.m. – 4 p.m. & 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. (lower demand, lower price)

  • Off-peak: All Day (lower demand, lower price)

Reduce Your Use & Critical Peak Pricing Event Day time periods

The new Event Day time period are 2 pm to 6 pm (previously 11 am - 6 pm)

For medium – large business on the following pricing plans: AL-TOU & AL-TOU-CPP & A6-TOU

Medium - Large business customers will have a three peak periods (please note the super off-peak period in March and April):
