Going to Bat for San Diego

A Partnership between the Padres & SDG&E

The Padres and SDG&E are “Going to Bat for San Diego”!  All season long, we’ll be teaming up together to host a series of promotions and special events that recognize and raise funds for non-profit organizations and programs that help make San Diego America’s finest city.

First Responder Appreciation Fridays

In appreciation of San Diego’s first responders, the Going to Bat for San Diego partnership is proud to recognize and support the following organizations who work hard to keep our community safe and sound.  In honor of their efforts, SDG&E will donate $10,000 to each charity:

Community Heroes Nights

SDG&E and the Padres are proud to support our real Community Heroes - active duty military, veterans and their families. Join us at Petco Park for designated games in July, August & September to raise funds for support charities that serve San Diegans who have served our country. Take home a souvenir and support a good cause at the same time. Stop by the "Park in the Park" before the game to take a photo with a Padre and Community Hero. Be sure to bring your smartphone. Suggested donation is $5 per photo. Whether you attend the game or not, you can still make a donation via text that goes directly to charity and will appear directly on your cell phone bill.

SDG&E will match donations for each charity up to $25,000.

Upcoming Community Heroes Night Games:

  • September 5 vs BOS: USO
  • Did you miss the game fundraising for the Armed Services YMCA – Camp Pendleton?  Don’t worry – you didn’t strike out. You can still support this charity and qualify for matching funds.

Science of Baseball

SDG&E is proud to support the Padres Science of Baseball program to inspire and expose students to STEM learning.

During the summer, this program  will work with South Bay School District to host a workshop for 30 teachers, Science of Baseball Camp for 60 students and include three online videos on padres.com.

The Science of Baseball empowers elementary and middle school students who may be underperforming academically by relating core curriculum topics to their athletic strengths, capabilities and interests. The goal is to translate the love of baseball into an appreciation, understanding, and passion of the science and mathematics underlying the sport. By demonstrating the natural connection between baseball, science, and mathematics, the students are encouraged to define and pursue better life choices, including the continuation of their education and even attending college.

Participation in the Padres Science of Baseball program has the potential to improve academic achievement, provide a path to college, elevate socioeconomic status, and make San Diego an even better place to live.
