Upgrade and Save

Up to 40 percent of home heat loss is due to inadequate insulation. With proper insulation, you could save about $18 a month (or up to 25 percent) on your winter heating costs. Insulation levels are specified by R-Value, which is a measure of insulation's ability to resist heat traveling through it. To receive a rebate, wall insulation must be R-13 or better.

Many pools are equipped with larger pumps than needed. Replacing standard pool pumps and motor assemblies with high-efficiency or multi-speed units can save energy, with virtually no reduction in cleaning effectiveness. Variable speed pumps allow you to reduce pump speed or you can reduce filtration run time with a single-speed pump. Reducing the filtration time by two hours per day (for a 1hp pool pump) can save an average of $10.00 per month.

Replacing a 10-year-old room air conditioner with a new ENERGY STAR® qualified model can save an average of $14 a year on your electric bill. Qualified room air conditioners often include timers for better temperature control.

According to ENERGY STAR® guidelines, replacing a clothes washer that is more than 10 years old could save you more than $137 a year. These qualified washing machines use 37 percent less energy and over 50 percent less water than conventional washers. CEE qualification saves you even more energy and money. To qualify for the SDG&E rebate, make sure to look for one that is CEE tier 3.  Visit CEE's website* to find a list of qualifying models. Efficient electric storage water heaters must have an Energy Factor (EF) of 0.92 or greater. Look for the EF rating on the water heater specification sheet or on the packaging box; it does not always appear on the water heater label itself. This rebate is limited to electric storage water heaters that are 30 gallons or greater. If qualifying product is replacing an existing unit, the existing unit must be electric.

Efficient natural gas storage water heaters must have an Energy Factor (EF) of 0.67 or greater to qualify for the $100 rebate. Look for the EF rating on the water heater specification sheet or on the packaging box; it does not always appear on the water heater label itself. This rebate is limited to natural gas storage water heaters that are 30 gallons or greater. If qualifying product is replacing an existing unit, the existing unit must be natural gas.

Please note that not all ENERGY STAR qualified models will qualify for a rebate. Must have a 95% or greater Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE). Starting in 2013, your C20 contractor is required to provide proof of installation - please see page 2 of the mail-in rebate application for additional instructions.
