As an added benefit, the Sunrise Powerlink will reduce energy costs by more than $100 million per year. By increasing the amount of electricity that can be imported into the region, the need to run local, aging power plants that are less efficient and more expensive to operate can be limited. The Sunrise Powerlink would also reduce expensive transmission congestion bottlenecks that cost SDG&E customers millions of dollars each year in state-imposed congestion fees.
