Pilot Program With Google™ to help monitor your Energy Usage

It's About Customer Choice

Google Power Meter

Smart Meters make collaborating with Google possible.

SDG&E is one of eight utilities working to make it easier for customers to view their energy use online.

SDG&E’s initial collaboration for our customer energy network is with Google. Utilities across the globe will be participating in the pilot, including SDG&E.

Why Smart Meters Make Collaborating with Google Possible

SDG&E and Google chose to partner together because both are leaders in their respective industries and SDG&E is one of the first utilities in the nation that is already installing smart meters for its 1.4 million customers, with a planned completion in 2011.

How The Pilot Will work with Smart Meters

SDG&E is currently in the testing phase with the Google PowerMeter. The service will be available to participating customers with smart meters in late 2009.

SDG&E will be recruiting a small group of smart meter customers in the Tierrasanta area to participate in a beta test to access their energy usage information online through the Google PowerMeter gadget.

In order to participate, eligible customers will need a SDG&E smart meter and a Google account and will have access to sign up at SDG&E’s Web site in late 2009, once testing is complete.
