Fire is unfortunately a fact of life in California. Click on the
link below for some of the steps SDG&E is taking to provide
safe, continuous service this fire season.
Tree and Vegetation
Management
You can help prevent electrical outages, fire and public
safety hazards by observing the following:
- Clear all vegetation
a minimum of 30 feet around your home and other structures.
- Do
not plant trees under or near electric lines.
- Plant vegetation
that is fire-resistant. Remember that vegetation is only
fire-resistant if it is regularly watered and trimmed. Talk to
your local nursery
for more information.
- Never allow children to climb trees
near electric lines.
- Never trim or prune trees near electric
lines. Always call SDG&E at 1-800-411-SDGE (7343) to inspect
the trees. In many cases, SDG&E will perform the work at
no cost to you.
- Inspect the trees on your property annually
for hazards.
Fire Emergencies
SDG&E recommends that customers
directed to leave their homes or businesses during fire or other
emergencies NOT turn off their gas and electricity unless they smell or hear a natural gas leak.
How to Shut Off
Your Gas
How to Shut Off Your Electricity
SDG&E will restore
gas and electric service to homes and businesses when it is safe.
Contact SDG&E at 1-800-411-SDGE (7343) to request that your
service be restored. Some city and/or county officials may require
that your home or business be inspected prior to restoring service.
In such cases, gas and electric service will not be restored
until an inspection has been completed.
