Lighting Turn-In Program

Join SDG&E® and your neighbors for special home lighting events. Lighting exchanges are held throughout San Diego all year long. Come to the event near you and trade up to five incandescent bulbs (75 watts or higher) for the same number of new, energy efficient light bulbs. You can even trade up to two halogen lamps for two new energy-efficient torchiere lamps, all at no cost to you!

Saving energy is good for the environment.

If every American home changed out just 5 high-use light fixtures or the bulbs in them with ones that have earned the ENERGY STAR®, together we'd keep more than one trillion pounds of greenhouse gases out of our air – equal to the emissions of 8 million cars. That's a $6 billion energy savings for Americans, equivalent to the annual output of more than 21 power plants. SDG&E’s Lighting Turn-In Program will replace your regular incandescent bulbs and halogen lamps with more energy-efficient models at no cost, helping you to go green and save.

  • Why Should I Attend a Lighting Turn-In Event?

Lighting Turn-In event attendees receive more than just light bulbs. In fact, attending an event is an easy way to get tips and other information from SDG&E to help make your home more energy efficient.

By attending a Lighting Turn-In event you can:

    • Take advantage of other SDG&E programs and services, ranging from bill assistance and rebates to free appliances and home improvements.
    • Receive energy-saving information that can help lower your monthly energy bill.
  • How Do I Participate in a Lighting Turn-In Event?
    1. Attend a Lighting Turn-In event held in your area.
    2. Bring up to five (5) 75-watt or higher regular incandescent light bulbs and two (2) halogen lamps to exchange.
    3. Fill out an application (you must also present a valid California ID, and a copy of your SDG&E bill for identification purposes only).
