Cool Zones offer a place to escape mid-day summer heat and reduce air conditioning use.
Established by the County of San Diego Aging and Independence Services (AIS), Cool Zones offer a place for senior citizens and customers with special needs to escape mid-day summer heat and reduce air conditioning use.
Cool Zones are set up in locations that are open to the public, so that all customers can beat the heat and save on energy costs.
AIS coordinates all Cool Zones, which are normally located in senior centers and other public buildings.
SDG&E works with AIS to enable transportation for limited-income seniors and for customers with disabilities so that they can easily get to the closest Cool Zone.
Limited-income seniors and customers with disabilities who need a portable fan but cannot afford to purchase one are also eligible to receive a fan free of charge. Supplies are limited, so please check with AIS for availability.
Cool Zone sites are open from June 24, 2010 until October 29, 2010.
