Unplanned outages can be caused by many things--traffic accidents, damage to power lines, even metallic balloons caught in overhead wires.
The two most common causes in the San Diego area are storms and high winds.
If your power goes out unexpectedly, the first thing to do is check your circuit breakers or fuses. Your power could be out because a circuit has tripped or a fuse has blown. If so, simply reset the circuit breaker or replace the fuse, and your power should be restored.
If you've check your circuits or fuses and they are properly connected, call SDG&E at 1-800-611-SDGE (7343) to report the outage.
When you call, the SDG&E Representative will ask you for the following information:
