During an outage, you may want to use a portable generator for electricity. For safety, never plug a generator into any electric outlets. This could feed electricity back into the utility power lines and seriously injure or kill SDG&E crews working to restore your power. Instead, plug appliances or equipment directly into the generator.
If you use a generator, state law requires that you notify SDG&E. Before connecting your portable generator, call us at 1-800-336-SDGE (7343). SDG&E will also confirm that it is connected safely.
