SDG&E recently sponsored environmental rap superhero Mr. Eco to perform four assemblies at local elementary schools. Students had the opportunity to learn about energy efficiency messages in a fun and interactive format, including a quiz on recycling and the environment, rap songs on topics like turning out lights when rooms aren’t in use (see an example in this Mr. Eco YouTube video) and student volunteers to help with the dancing portion of the songs.
The elementary schools Mr. Eco visited with support from SDG&E included Sycamore Ridge School, Ocean Air School, Walker Elementary School and Carmel Del Mar School.

One of the school principals received a letter from a third-grade parent explaining how effective the assembly was in teaching good energy-saving habits to their child, who is now “rapping about not using plastic bags and he’s turning off lights all over the house… he explained to me how my plastic water bottle was bad because it used a lot of gasoline to make and the plastic will last forever in a landfill.”
SDG&E is proud to have the opportunity to promote the importance of energy efficiency with local youth, while connecting to our customers, our community and the environment.
