San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) recently awarded $25,000 to the Veterans services at San Diego Miramar College. Dave Smith, SDG&E’s Vice President & General Counsel and a United States Air Force Veteran, presented the check to the students in the Vets2Jets program during a formal presentation at Miramar College.
“At SDG&E we are always seeking opportunities to better integrate and transition returning military into civilian life,” said Dave Smith during the presentation. “We are proud to support Miramar College in this worthy endeavor.”
The Vets2Jets program will assist approximately 125 returning military veterans who were severely wounded or injured during service and/or have 20% or more Veterans Administration documented disability, and are enrolled or plan to enroll in a Miramar College certificate or degree program to prepare for employment upon completion.
The project is intended to remove informational, cultural, injury or trauma-related, and financial barriers to enrollment and retention that are typically faced by Veterans. A network of mentors, tutors, career guidance and assistance in job placement will support Veterans’ academic success.
