SDG&E took home top honors as Outstanding Corporate Philanthropist of the Year at the annual Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) awards luncheon on Oct. 25. During the awards ceremony, SDG&E was recognized for its generosity, corporate giving strategy and strong commitment to the community.

“This prestigious award truly belongs to our employees who donate their money and time to the charitable organizations they care about,” said Jessie Knight. “Over the last 10 years, the Sempra Energy family of companies has given back more than $120 million to charitable causes, and in 2011, SDG&E gave over $5 million to causes in San Diego alone.”

Jessie Knight, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer, accepted the award on behalf of SDG&E and delivered an inspiring video message that applauded fellow employees for giving their own time and money to help the community in which we all live and work.

Committed to the community

SDG&E and the Sempra Energy family of companies have had a long-standing commitment to supporting diverse and underserved communities in our local region and abroad. SDG&E specifically focuses on giving to non-profit organizations that promote emergency preparedness and safety, environmental education and community engagement, and the development of civic leadership.

“At SDG&E we don’t just write checks – we’re true partners with communities who share common community goals,” Knight added.

It’s through these long-standing partnerships with local organizations that helped SDG&E received the most nominations for this coveted award in AFP’s history. The following partners not only do great work in our community but also submitted a glowing nomination on behalf of SDG&E:
