Earlier this month, the San Diego Junior Lifeguard Foundation kicked-off “Water Proofing San Diego” by hosting the first of a series of free swim lessons for the Monarch School for homeless children at the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA.
Using a generous grant from San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), the San Diego Junior Lifeguard Foundation partnered with the Monarch School for homeless children and the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA to provide transportation, free swimming lessons, bathing suits and towels for the Monarch students over a 5 week period.
“Providing students from the Monarch School with free swimming lessons through the SDG&E grant is what the San Diego Junior Lifeguard Foundation Water Proofing San Diego program is all about,” said Corey McClelland, president and chief executive officer for the San Diego Junior Lifeguard Foundation. “Reaching out to provide aquatic safety education to the community of San Diego will hopefully save lives in the future, which is our primary focus. Teaming with SDG&E, Jackie Robinson Family YMCA and the Monarch School is helping to create a positive impact on today’s youth and is a win-win for all involved!”
The “Water Proofing San Diego” program is a three pronged approach to aquatic safety by providing aquatic safety education, free swimming lessons and a day at the beach for over 3,000 inner city youth this year alone.
