Information about Funding for Natural Gas Energy Efficiency Programs

The Governor has approved a budget that includes a transfer of $155 million from the Gas Consumption Surcharge Fund to the state’s 2011-2012 general fund to help fill California’s budget gaps. Until there is certainty in funding for future years, SDG&E cannot commit to customers that we will be able to fund incentives for natural gas projects. We are doing our best to temper expectations with regard to this situation and want to keep you informed.

For Business customers, we will continue to accept applications, but depending on action by the CPUC, we cannot guarantee that rebates or incentives will be available at the time that applications are processed. We will not begin processing applications sent in after July 22, 2011 until the CPUC issues a decision and provides guidance in this area.

For Residential customers, we have discontinued incentives for natural gas efficiency products, including water heaters and furnaces.

As soon as the California Public Utilities Commission approves a scenario for proposed budget reductions, we will immediately begin notifying our customers, contractors, retailers and all other interested parties of any changes to programs.
