Customers who have an electric vehicle can sign up for an Electric Vehicle Time-of-Use (EV-TOU) rate and receive lower rates for charging their vehicle during off-peak hours, between midnight at 5 A.M. EV-TOU rates are offered to encourage customers to limit daytime usage of electricity, when demand for electricity is highest.
There are two EV-TOU rate choices and both are calculated by the time of day you charge your car, while typical household rates are calculated by how much you charge your car.
The EV-TOU-2 rate uses your existing household meter to track electricity used by both your home and EV. Since all your electricity is measured by one meter, the time-of-use price applies to all the electricity you use and the price does not change as you use more electricity. It will however change depending on the time of day you use it. On time-of-use rates, electricity is at its lowest price between midnight and 5 a.m. and you can set your car's timer to start charging at this time. If most of your electricity use occurs during the day, time-of-use rates may not be the best rate for you.

The EV-TOU rate requires a separate meter for your EV. The EV meter tracks your vehicle’s electricity use separately from the rest of your home. A licensed electrician of your choice is required to install this second meter and this expense is paid by you. Solar customers wanting a separate meter are unable to use solar energy for this meter.

Find your EV usage
Your auto dealer and your vehicle's EPA window sticker can provide the information needed to estimate your EV energy usage based on the number of miles you drive each month. A typical EV consumes approximately 1 kilowatt hour per 3 miles -- therefore if you drive 900 miles in a month you will consume 300 kilowatt hours.
Find the rate tier you are in
Knowing your home energy usage patter is necessary to determining the best rate option. Find this by logging into "My Account" and clicking "View my Bill", then "View Detailed Bill". Find the chart that shows the highest tier you were in last month. If you are already in tiers 3 or 4, EV TOU rates will likely benefit you.
Find your energy usage If adding your EV kilowatt hours to your current household kilowatt hours moves you into tiers 3 or 4, EV TOU rates will likely benefit you.
If you have solar and are purchasing an EV, you need to know the rated output in kilovolts of you solar system to help determine your rate choice. You have two rate options:
