In August of 2006, SDG&E established the Clean
Transportation Program. This program addresses the growing interest by
SDG&E customers in a variety of alternative electric transportation
technologies, including electric vehicles.

Driven by the national
priorities to reduce fuel consumption, promote the use of electricity as an
alternative fuel, reduce dependence on foreign oil and also to assist
in achieving the environmental priorities for the state of California relative to transportation, we want to support our customers in identifying
clean transportation opportunities in the San Diego service area.

On Road Electric Vehicles

Vehicles/Plug In Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV)

- Light duty - (passenger vehicles)
- Medium duty - (trucks, etc)
- Heavy duty - (heavy equipment)

Non-Road Electric Vehicles

- Fork lifts, material handling equipment, personnel carriers and cleaners
- Airport Ground Support Equipment (GSE) – (electrification of ground support
equipment at San Diego International Airport)

Electric Idling Initiatives
(substituting electrification for petroleum fueled idling
operations)

- "Cold Ironing" - Port of San Diego cruise ship and cargo terminals
- Locomotive Electric Idling (San Diego Sante Fe Train Station)
