The award winning Sustainable Communities Program (SCP) advances and promotes the use of clean energy generation technologies within SDG&E’s service area.
The program strategically integrates utility owned generation systems, such as photovoltaics, fuel cells, and wind power, within sustainable building projects to provide energy to the grid. The systems are installed, maintained, and operated by SDG&E.
In November 2008, the SDG&E Sustainable Communities Program was awarded the US Green Building Council leadership award in the “Community” category. This prestigious award honors individuals or organizations that practice the best sustainable building activities in the nation.
The Leadership Awards recognize outstanding individuals and organizations that signify vision, leadership and commitment to green building design and construction. Awards are presented in six categories including Community, Education, LEED, Organizational Excellence, Research and Advocacy.
In 2007, SCP was awarded the Solar Business Achievement Award from Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) in the category of “Innovative Solar Program Design.” This award recognizes utilities and partnering companies for their outstanding efforts to make solar a mainstream electricity option.
Also in 2007, SCP was selected as an Exemplary Program by The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE).
