California Solar Initiative

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's Million Solar Roofs Program aims to develop 3,000 megawatts of new, solar-generated electricity by 2017.

Paving the way for a cleaner energy future while also lowering the cost of solar systems for consumers.

Self-Generation Technologies

“Self-generation” refers to distributed generation installed on the customer’s side of the utility meter that provides electricity for that customer’s partial or entire electricity load.

Examples of self-generation technologies include microturbines, small gas turbines, photovoltaics, solar electric, wind turbines, hydroelectric, fuel cells and internal combustion engines.

Self-Generation Incentive Programs

Find out more about two programs offering financial incentives to those who qualify: the Self-Generation Incentive Program and the California Energy Commissions Renewables Rebate program.

Self-Generation - Interconnection

The parallel operation of a self-generation unit requires interconnection with SDG&E’s distribution system.

Interconnection, operating and metering requirements are described in SDG&E’s electric tariff Rule 21, approved by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). The first step is to request a Self-Generation Interconnection Package.
