How long have you worked at SDG&E?

Since 2011.

What do you like most about working here?

The people, of course! I think we have a great deal of employees here who are not only knowledgeable, but who are truly passionate about their work. They're willing to share their own insights and experiences, with some going so far as to providing me with invaluable advice that's essential for career development. I'm surrounded by mentors, and I admire them greatly for the tremendous amount of assistance that I've received from them. Did I forget to mention that the people working here are also really nice and easygoing?

What’s the most interesting thing about your job?

Being in the IT Rotation Program allows me to travel to our different sites, so that I can engage in a variety of activities. In addition to the three 9-month rotations, I'm involved in other initiatives such as the summer internship events that we hold as well as college recruitment activities. I also have the opportunity to attend different conferences throughout the year to learn more about the company and about the industry as a whole. This is just the tip of the iceberg; every single day brings something new, which makes for an exciting and unique experience.

What’s the most common misconception you think people have about working for a utility company?

Most people seem to find that working for a utility company is archaic, boring, and maybe even dangerous. They assume this based on their own encounters and observations. I wouldn’t be surprised if some people thought that a utility company was entirely comprised of field technicians that work on power poles or that read meters all day, every day! Of course, there is much more to it—especially at our company.
