Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) run on both gasoline and electricity, and can be plugged into a standard wall outlet to recharge the battery.
When compared with conventional gasoline-fueled vehicles, as well as standard hybrid, PHEVs:
Get more miles per gallon.
Decrease carbon dioxide (CO2) tailpipe emissions.
Reduce fuel costs.
Can run in the electric mode far longer than regular hybrids.
Are able to recharge battery during off-peak hours, at home from the grid.
Require fewer trips to the gas station.
For more information on the benefits of PHEVs, see the Idaho National Laboratory’s Advanced Vehicle Testing Activity - Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles.
