In collaboration with the Unified Port of San Diego and the City of San Diego, SDG&E and Nakao International C&E have begun testing a vertical-axis wind-turbine, the first of its kind in the U.S., at Harbor Island Park near Harbor Drive.
This 30 foot tall wind turbine will be capable of producing up to two kilowatts of power, which will help supply power to the City of San Diego’s sewage pumping system.
The objective of this year long project is to evaluate the economic viability of the wind turbine in costal winds and to document the lessons learned during permitting, construction, and operation of the wind turbine.
