The Sunrise Powerlink is a 117-mile transmission line that will carry renewable energy from the Imperial Valley to San Diego.
Access to renewable energy
The Sunrise Powerlink will help battle climate change and keep greenhouse gas emissions in check by connecting San Diego to clean, renewable energy supplies located east of San Diego.
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has identified portions of eastern San Diego County, Imperial County and the northern Baja region as some of the top locations in the country to generate electricity from the sun, wind and steam heat from the earth (geothermal power).
To tap into wind resources, SDG&E is proposing infrastructure improvements in the Mountain Empire community located in eastern San Diego County.
These improvements will help deliver renewable energy to customers in SDG&E’s service area.
These progressive companies below host SDG&E-owned photovoltaic solar systems or fuel cells. Typically connected on the utility side of the meter, these systems contribute a combined total of nearly four megawatts of locally generated renewable energy to the community.
